Info

This territorial species is found in loose groups on reefs close to the coast, on gravel bottoms and on scree slopes exposed to strong currents.
The perch is also found in areas with padina algae.

Pomacentrus melanochir differs from other similarly colored Pomacentrus perch by the smooth suborbital margin and the faint serrations on the edge of the preoperculum.

Pomacentrus melanochir often form large schools that cloud the water above the rocks as they feed on zooplankton.

Egg clutches are laid between rocks and guarded.

Otherwise we have no further information.

We woulkd like to thank Victor (ivansls) from iNaturalist for the first photo of the species.
