Captive breeding / propagation

The offspring of Hippocampus denise are possible. Unfortunately, the number of offspring is not large enough to cover the demand of the trade. If you are interested in Hippocampus denise, please ask your dealer for offspring. If you already own Hippocampus denise, try breeding yourself. This will help to improve the availability of offspring in the trade and to conserve natural stocks.

Husbandry

Lourie & Randall, 2003

Lives in association with gorgonian seafans (Annella reticulata, Muricella sp., and Echinogorgia sp.). Master of camouflage, with their coloration and body ornamentation in the form of tubercles, can match the stems and polyps of their gorgonian hosts.

International trade is monitored through a licensing system (CITES II, since 5.15.04).
