Info

Goniobranchus Pease, 1866

Goniobranchus is a genus of often beautifully colored, eye-catching sea snails. They are food specialists that feed on specific sponges depending on the species.

The photo shown shows a previously undescribed species that is known from the Philippines and La Reunion.

The colorful snail is light blue with a large yellow area with white circles. Each circle is outlined in dark yellow up to the edge of the body. A submarginal black stripe runs around the notum. Rhinophores and gills light blue with darker blue.

The nudibranch has been found in rocky reefs at a depth of 17m.

The undescribed species corresponds to Goniobranchus sp.14 in the book Nudibranch&Sea Slug Indo-Pacific, Gosliner, Valdes and Behrens page 217 or in the newer edition Goniobranchus sp. 15 in Gosliner et al, NSSI2, p. 146.
