Info

Elacatinus illecebrosus is a reef-bound species that can be found in groups near coral heads, but also on mangrove roots and rocky substra.
It is a monogamous benthic grundek that hides on coral heads at night.
It feeds on crustacean parasites.

One of the photographs of the small goby was kindly provided by De Jong Marinelife, a wholesaler from the Netherlands.
There it is traded under the name Gobiosoma illecebrosum, which is just a synonym.

Synonyms:

Jumping guard
A jumping guard prevents (nocturnal) fish from jumping out.
Wrasses, blennies, hawkfishs and gobies jump out of an unprotected tank in fright if their night rest is disturbed, unfortunately these jumpers are found dried up in the morning on carpets, glass edges or later behind the tank.

A small night light also helps, as it provides the fish with a means of orientation in the dark!
