Plectorhinchus makranensis was observed at six locations along the coast of the Gulf of Oman and the Persian Gulf in the Northwest Indian Ocean.
The abundance was higher in the Gulf of Oman than in the Persian Gulf.
All specimens were collected in shallow rocky and coral areas.
Other species of this family that occur sympatrically with Plectorhinchus makranensis at the type locality (Beris coast) are: Diagramma pictum, Plectorhinchus pictus, Pomadasys kaakan, Pomadasys maculatus and Pomadasys stridens.

The body of Plectorhinchus makranensis is silver-gray, while all fins are dark gray.
The pectoral fin base is light gray, as is the uppermost first to third pectoral fin ray.
The orbital margin is orange, the iris is gray.
The ventral part of the body including suboperculum, breast and pectoral fin edge opaque white, the ; lips and chin pinkish gray, the posterior part of the opercula is also gray.

Etymology:
The species name “makranensis” is derived from the Makran coast and refers to the coastal land in south-eastern Iran and south-western Pakistan, north of the Gulf of Oman.
