Captive breeding / propagation

The offspring of Goniopora savignyi are possible. Unfortunately, the number of offspring is not large enough to cover the demand of the trade. If you are interested in Goniopora savignyi, please ask your dealer for offspring. If you already own Goniopora savignyi, try breeding yourself. This will help to improve the availability of offspring in the trade and to conserve natural stocks.

Info

From Veron, J.E.N. Corals of the World

Description: Colonies are columnar, usually with thin explanate basal plates. They are usually lobed, and may be large. Corallites are deep, polygonal to rounded, with short septa. Paliform lobes are prominent. Columellae are poorly developed.
Color: Polyps are a mass of grey tentacles when extended.
Habitat: Shallow reef environments.
Abundance: Uncommon but distinctive.
Similar Species: Goniopora fruticosa, which has fused branches rather than columns and is distinctively coloured. See also G. burgosi, which has similar polyps but is submassive and G. planulata, which has larger polyps.
