Captive breeding / propagation

The offspring of Goniopora planulata are possible. Unfortunately, the number of offspring is not large enough to cover the demand of the trade. If you are interested in Goniopora planulata, please ask your dealer for offspring. If you already own Goniopora planulata, try breeding yourself. This will help to improve the availability of offspring in the trade and to conserve natural stocks.

Info

From Veron, J.E.N. Corals of the World.

Description: Colonies are submassive with small compacted columns or mounds. Corallites have thin walls. Septa are thin and irregular and do not form deltas except in colonies in very shallow water. Paliform lobes form a diffuse crown. Polyps are short with tentacles of uniform length.
Color: Dark grey-brown, usually with white mouths.
Habitat: Shallow reef environments.
Abundance: Usually uncommon.
Similar Species: Goniopora columna, which forms thicker columns and has larger corallites.
