Captive breeding / propagation

The offspring of Corythoichthys paxtoni are possible. Unfortunately, the number of offspring is not large enough to cover the demand of the trade. If you are interested in Corythoichthys paxtoni, please ask your dealer for offspring. If you already own Corythoichthys paxtoni, try breeding yourself. This will help to improve the availability of offspring in the trade and to conserve natural stocks.

Husbandry

Corythoichthys paxtoni Dawson, 1977
Paxton's pipefish

Corythoichthys paxtoni is endemic to the Coral Sea, inhabiting Australia's Great Barrier Reef, the Chesterfield Islands, and New Caledonia (Dawson 1977, 1985; Kulbicki et al. 1994; Fricke et al. 2011).

Adults inhabit coral reef. The male carries the eggs in a brood pouch which is found under the tail
