The color of the colonies of this beautiful, bush-like horn coral ranges from a deep brownish red to a dark orange, which is very characteristic of this species.
Leptogorgia exigua does not have any zooxanthellae and is therefore a suspension feeder, meaning that the coral is dependent on a continuous supply of tiny organic suspended particles, which is only the case in areas with strong currents or directly on rocky coastlines.
