Pelagella albopunctata Paz-Sedano, Smirnoff, Gosliner & Pola, 2023
Six new species of Pelagella: Pelagella albopunctata ,Pelagella balanoyensis , Pelagella longicornis, Pelagella scottjohnsoni, Pelagella rubrobranchiata and Pelagella vitrea were newly described in 2023.
The holotype of Pelagella albopunctata is from Kwajalein Atoll, Marshall Islands from 5 m depth and is 6 mm in size. The species name "albopunctata" means "white spotted".
This species is known in the Marshalls from the single specimen below, found on 29 August 2009 under a rock on a lagoon reef in western Kwajalein Atoll at a depth of approximately 5m. It was 10mm long. This specimen is reported in Gosliner et al. (2018) as Goniodoris sp. designated. 4. A slightly different-looking form is known from the western Pacific, including the Philippines and Indonesia.
WoRMS classifies the small snail as predatory on sessile food. Since details are not available, we suspect that it feeds on sea squirts like other members of its genus.
