Info

Metridium exile lives under rocks or ledges on the open coast in California and grows to a size of only 1.8 cm - max. 20 cm.

Description. A small solitary anemone; the fully expanded column is slender. The anemone has less than 100 tentacles and has a yellow, orange, yellow-brown or red body column.
The polyps are finely conical and have pointed, translucent tentacles.

Habitat and habitat:
Evenly distributed on all surfaces of the reef. however, difficult to see which their color blends well with the background.
First discovered in Hermosa Beach, California in 1961 on the concrete shelters of the breakwater / pier.

Reproduction:
The formation of clones results in rapid colonization of the areas, and the anemone also actively fights other sea anemones in order to assert itself at the site.
The formation of clones leads to an impressive number of sea anemones more quickly than sexual reproduction, which displaces other species and gives the anemone the nickname “superficial modifier”.

There is no experience of keeping them.
