The body colour is translucent greyish-white to pale greyish-yellow with irregular, scattered black pigment occurs on dorsum and sides of body, and on sides of foot. Doto columbiana, commonly known as British Columbia Doto , has 5-6 opposite pairs of cerata. Rhinophores are translucent greyish-white in colour.
This minute Doto feeds on hydrozoen genus Aglaophenia.
Similar species are Doto kya (has 8-9 pairs of cerata, lacks dark pigment on sides of foot) and Doto amyra (lacks any dark pigment).
