A Red Sea immigrant into the Mediterranean ( lessepssche migration ) from the Indo-Pacific.
Very abundant in coastal waters, found on mud or sand bottoms, usually in schools
Feeds mainly on small fishes, crustaceans, mollusks (mainly cephalopods), polychaetes and echinoderms.
