Aclyvolva coarctata (G. B. Sowerby II in A. Adams & Reeve, 1848)

Aclyvolva coarctata belongs to the family Ovulidae - the Egg Cowries or false Cowries.Aclyvolva coarctata live on sea whips genus Juncella ( e.g. Juncella juncea).This species is known as Compressed Cowrie.The papillae of this Cowrie immitate the polyps of sea whips, because they are retractable.Similar is the Cowrie Aclyvolva lanceolata. Aclyvolva coarctata is lighter brown and is slightly wider in the middle of the shell than Aclyvolva lanceolata.
