Info

Achoerodus viridis (Steindachner, 1866 & Richardson, 1843)

Achoerodus viridis, also known as the blue groper, is one of the most commonly seen reef fishes in the waters of south-eastern Australia and live in a variety of coastal waters, especially exposed reefs.

They are in fact rarely found north of the NSW/Qld border of the east coast of Australia and are an endemic Australian species.

All Achoerodus viridis begin their life as females. As they mature, they go through an initial phase, in which they may be male or female, before developing their adult colouring and reaching the terminal phase.

The blue groper feeds on invertebrates such as sea urchins, crabs and mussels.
