The kelp rockfish is a solitary fish with nocturnal habits, which populates waters from the tidal zone to depths of 45 metres. It spends the day in kelp forests, lying on foliage or on the sea floor. During this period, it is not very active and in fact, some underwater hunters take advantage of this to catch these fish by hand. At night, it becomes active and explores the vicinity of the kelp forests to feed on other fishes and shrimp.
