Apletodon barbatus Fricke, Wirtz & Brito, 2010
Apletodon barbatus is a small species of clingfish (1.4 cm) and can be found in shallow water in nature. Males have distinctive, large white barbels.
Little is known about keeping them in captivity, Apletodon barbatus should however, like other clingfish, feed on copepods and other small crustaceans. Some species in the family have been reported to eat frozen food.
Clingfish attach themselves to surfaces by means of their transformed ventral fins, swim little and stay small - all of which makes them ideal animals for nano tanks.
The photographs have been taken by Peter Wirtz on one of his expeditions and he has kindly allowed us to share them with you.
