Batrachoides gilberti belongs to the family of frog fishes (Batrachoididae), to be found along the coast of Central America from Panama to Belize and the southern coast of Mexico.
Batrachoides gilberti has an elongated body, a large flattened head and a big mouth. The lower jaw is in front and dominates the upper jaw. Along the upper jaw barbels grow many frayed or skin flap. It has a brownish-beige bodycolor with dots or saddle-shaped blackish spots. Reached his final lenght with about 23 cm, therefore he is a medium-sized frog fish.
Like all frog fish, he is a ambush hunter. It feeds on crustaceans of all kinds, small fish and squid as well as snails.
