Info

Narcinops ornatus (Carvalho, 2008)

Narcinops ornatus is a species of electric ray in the family Narcinidae. It is a benthic species found on continental shelves at depths of 48 to 132 meters. Females grow slightly larger, reaching up to 9.5 inches (24.1 cm) in length, compared to males, which grow to 6.7 to 7 inches (17 to 18 cm).

The surface is covered with dark brown-pink spots, with some of these spots forming joined longitudinal stripes down the middle. The underside is white. The diet consists of small invertebrates on the sea floor.

The main threat to the ray is commercial fishing, which directly or indirectly alters its habitat.
