Info

Terelabrus zonalis, like all other species of the wrasse genus Terelabrus, is a deep-water wrasse that was landed with a trawl net on the south coast of Mindoro Island, Philippines, as early as 1985.
However, it was only 33 years later that it was first described as a new species by the ichthyologist Yoshino Fukui, Japan.

James Foster's photo from the Great Barrier Reef is the only photo that shows a freshly landed wrasse!

Etymology: The species bears the name "zonalis" (from the Latin "zona", meaning "stripe", in reference to the vertical stripes on the body.
Remarks. Terelabrus zonalis is characterized by a higher number of scale rows in the longitudinal direction.

Jumping guard
A jumping guard prevents (nocturnal) fish from jumping out.
Wrasses, blennies, hawkfishs and gobies jump out of an unprotected tank in fright if their night rest is disturbed, unfortunately these jumpers are found dried up in the morning on carpets, glass edges or later behind the tank.

A small night light also helps, as it provides the fish with a means of orientation in the dark!
