Acanthophora spicifera (M.Vahl) Børgesen, 1910

This marine red algae occurs in tropical and subtropical waters. Acanthophora spicifera is variable in colour. It grows on hard substrates, as epiphyte on other algae, as well as a free living drift alga. As a free living drift alga this species is a large part of the drifting algae biomass in the waters.
