Info

Adult threadfin shad live solitary in coastal waters near the bottom to a depth of at least 50 meters and are strong swimmers.
Juveniles are usually pelagic and drifting, sometimes also found in brackish water.

Alectis alexandrina is found in mid-water, especially over sandy substrates.

The African threadfin mackerel is silvery, with a slight metallic-blue tint on the upper third of the body and head; juvenile animals are easily recognized by 5 dark crossbars on the sides.

This fast fish does not belong in a home aquarium due to its size, swimming strength and menu.
