Info

Stebbingdromia plumosa (Lewinsohn, 1984)

Dromiidae is a family of crabs, commonly known as the sponge crabs. They are small or medium-sized crabs which get their name from the ability to shape a living sponge into a portable shelter for themselve.

The genus name "Stebbingdromiaon" refer to Thomas Roscoe Rede Stebbing (1835-1926) for his contributions to carcinology. Stebbingdromia plumosa is the only species in the genus.

Stebbingdromia plumosa is one of the sponge crabs, with rear legs that articulat upwards and are used to hold chunks of sponge over the carapace. This crab is covering of plumose setae.
