Janolus tricellariodes is characterized by the colour of the cerata and the rhinophores: pale yellowish/cream with a bright blue tip and a purple subapical band, and opaque white specks.

Janolus species feed on Bryozoa, moss animals. The specific name "tricellariodes " refers to Tricellaria sp., the bryozoan on which Janolus tricellariodes feeds.
