Captive breeding / propagation

The offspring of Erythropodium taoyuanensis are possible. Unfortunately, the number of offspring is not large enough to cover the demand of the trade. If you are interested in Erythropodium taoyuanensis, please ask your dealer for offspring. If you already own Erythropodium taoyuanensis, try breeding yourself. This will help to improve the availability of offspring in the trade and to conserve natural stocks.

Info

The tube coral Erythropodium taoyuanensis was first described in 2022 and resembles the "much-loved monkey hair", and forms colonies of 30cm.
The coral is only from Datan Algal Reef, Taoyuan, Taiwan, is the only place where this species is known; there is a species-rich coralline algal reef.
Erythropodium taoyuanensis is one of the predominant sessile organisms encrusting the rocks at this site, and is generally restricted to near the low tide line and may be exposed to the air during the spring low tide.

Etymology
The species name "taoyuanensis" refers to the name of the city of Taoyuan where the specimens were collected.
