Tripterodon orbis Playfair, 1867
Tripterodon orbis belongs to the spadefish family and was previously only known from the east coast to South Africa in the western Indian Ocean.
In 2011, the first sightings were reported in the Arabian Sea and in 2016 in the Bay of Bengal in the Indian Ocean, which is why we have also classified this spadefish as an invasive species.
Tripterodon orbis inhabits coastal waters around reefs and feeds on rocky and coral-dwelling organisms; its meat is edible.
Appearance: This spadefish is silvery brown with dark transverse bands, which disappear as it grows.
