The zoanthid is very similar to Z. natalensis, being short and squat / height roughly equal to width).
Zoanthus durbanensis has a thick Coenenchyme.
Column podery, tentacles green to chocoltae brown, the polyps are never completetly withdrawn, always visible.
The Polyps are 10mm tall and 8mm in diamter.

Habitat: The Durban zoanthid grows on exposed intertidal rocks; never sand embedded!
