Chrysoblephus gibbiceps (Valenciennes, 1830)

Chrysoblephus gibbiceps is a cold water sea bream.This uncommon, exclusive and very expensive fish is endemic to the South African south and east coasts. Silvery pinkin colour with 5 -7 vertical red bars on the sides and irregular blackspots over the body.Very steep forhead wich develop in a bump in older males.

The Red stumpnose seabream have powerful molars used to crush food items (redbait, sea urchin, octopus and crab).

Chrysoblephus gibbiceps is an endangered sea bream, since 2004 in an effort to re-establish.
