Very special thanks for the first photo of Apogon amboinensis to Christine Pöllabauer, New Caledonia.
Christine told us, that she caught this cardinalfish in the Wadjana River, a freshwater river!
This species is found in shallow brackish to fresh waters in river mouths and estuaries and mangroves, with soft sand to muddy substrate.
At Yakushima Island, southern Japan, a specimen was found with about 3,000 eggs in its mouth (Yoshida et al. 2010).
