Husbandry

Montastrea cavernosa
Linnaeus, 1766

Montastraea cavernosa can be found in the tropical western Atlantic, from the Bahamas to the Caribbean and along the coast of Brazil to about Rio de Janeiro. In the Caribbean, it is one of the most important reef-building corals.

Class: Anthozoa (Anthozoa)
Subclass: Hexacorallia
Order: stony corals (Scleractinia)
Family: Faviidae
Genus: Montastraea
Species: Montastraea cavernosa

Initially this coral was incorrectly assigned as Diploastrea Heliopora since the corallit and the appearance are very similar. With the help of Detlef Klose we could correctly assign the coral, thank you for your support Detlef.
