Odax cyanoallix is known from the Three Kings Islands and Cape Reinga at the northern tip of New Zealand.
Adults are exclusively herbivorous, juveniles are probably omnivorous?

Diet: Ecklonia radiata, Landsburgia quercifolia, the endemic Sargassum johnsonii and other epiphytic rhodophytes.
